Basic Soul Unit (Stuart Li) has been involved in the Toronto Club Scene promoting and DJing several independent nights of various genres. He grew up in Toronto where the multi-cultural nature of the city exposed him to the sounds of dance music, from Hip Hop, Techno, to Jazz, Funk, Latin and Disco. Many of BSU's teenage years were spent in after-hours parties during the prime of Toronto House music scene in the early 90's. Naturally, House music has always had a special place in his heart. 

After the unexpected and great international response to the first two BSU releases on Do Right Music & Iwanai, BSU is set to prepare a slew of new releases for 2005. Ocean EP showcases the signature sound of Basic Soul Unit... reminiscing the rawness and immediacy of the early Chicago House and Detroit Techno sounds and let all his other influences filter in. This is music made in the now with the elements of today's sounds rather than ode to back in the dayz. Already played and charted by the likes of Jazzanova, Rainer Truby, Chateau Flight, Mr Scruff and Kyoto Jazz Massive. Watch out for his upcoming releases for Versatile, and a work-in-progress Sonar Kollektiv 12".
